2009 ASN Canada FIA
Canadian AutoSlalom Championship

Mississauga, Ontario – November 14, 2008

ASN Canada FIA is pleased to announce that the 2009 ASN Canada FIA Canadian AutoSlalom Championships will be held at Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on the September 4-7 Labour Day holiday weekend, 2009.  This year’s championship will be organized by the Saskatoon Sports Car Club (SSCC) under the direction of Shawn Magee, chair of the organizing committee.

“ASN Canada FIA was very pleased with the presentation that SSCC made to host the Canadian AutoSlalom Championships.  The club has conducted the two day Western Canadian Motorsport Association AutoSlalom Regionals The Super Slalom in Saskatoon’, for the past 18 years and will be bringing the Canadian AutoSlalom Championships together with their premier event,” said Terry Epp, chairman of the ASN Canada FIA National SoloSport Committee.

“The club’s winning bid accented several key factors which resulted in bringing the Canadian AutoSlalom Championships to Saskatoon at the end of the 2009 summer season.  The Super Slalom in Saskatoon has demonstrated itself as a premier event in the west and the depth of the organizing committee as well as the excellent participant numbers in past events made the selection the right choice. The National SoloSport Committee is also looking forward to increased participation by competitors from across the country.”

Shawn Magee, on behalf of SSCC, said, “The SSCC is very excited to be awarded the 2009 Canadian AutoSlalom Championships by ASN Canada FIA. We have a strong, dedicated club and we’re pumped to be hosting the premier AutoSlalom event in Canada. The SSCC and all the clubs in the Western Canada Motorsports Association region look forward to welcoming competitors from across Canada and the United States to this incredible event.  We’re confident we’ll make the 2009 edition of the ASN Canada FIA Canadian AutoSlalom Championships the very best event North American auto-crossers have ever seen.”

Canadian AutoSlalom Championships Fast Facts:

Dating back to 1972, Canadian SoloSport competitors enjoyed a National AutoSlalom Day with identically designed courses run on the same day on different venues across the country from which national class champions were determined.

In 2000, a group of enthusiastic SoloSport competitors from across Canada created a single national championship event, the Canadian National AutoSlalom Championships, which ran through to 2003.

With the formation of the ASN Canada FIA National SoloSport Committee in 2004, the ASN Canada FIA Canadian AutoSlalom Championships concept became part of the mandate of the ASN National SoloSport Committee and the committee elected to hold an annual Canadian AutoSlalom Championship event alternating between eastern and western Canada.

In 2004, the National SoloSport Committee created a national set of AutoSlalom Regulations and in 2005, added a new feature for Canadian AutoSlalom, a formula for determining an overall national AutoSlalom champion.

2007 saw the Canadian AutoSlalom Championships in the west when the event was held in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia where the event was hosted by the Vancouver Chinese Motorsport Club.  Excellence was evident in every aspect of the championships and 132 entries vied for top results.

In 2008 the championships were in Slemon Park, Prince Edward Island organized by Moncton Motor Sport Club.  The organizing committee designed a 1500 foot course that challenged and delighted the almost 100 entries that attended the three day event.  Carl Wener of Montréal turned in an exceptional performance and won the Canadian AutoSlalom Title as Canada’s best AutoSlalom driver.

The Canadian AutoSlalom Championships were first held in 1972 - 2009 marks the 37 year for the championships.
