Mississauga, Ontario – June 23

The ASN Canada FIA Canadian AutoSlalom Championships are being held on August 19-21 at the Westerner Fairgrounds in Red Deer, Alberta.  The event is expected to draw over 150 entrants with competitors from the Maritimes, Quebec, Ontario as well as the western provinces and the United States and is organized by the Calgary Sports Car Club in conjunction with the VCMC Motorsports Club of Vancouver.

“Building on the very successful revamped Canadian AutoSlalom Championships held last year at Sanair Race Track near Montreal, the ASN Canada FIA National SoloSport Committee is very pleased this year’s event will be held in Alberta.   The championships are held annually and alternate between western and eastern Canada,’ said Terry Epp, the chairman of the ASN National SoloSport Committee.

The event is being organized under the direction of Reijo Silvennoinen and provides a driving challenge for the sport’s best drivers.  The three day event consists of a testing day on the Friday followed by two days of competition on the Saturday and Sunday.  Results from both days are used to determine the overall winners in Stock, Super Stock, Street Prepared and Modified classes.

Further details about the event can be found on the organizing club’s web site (www.cscc.ab.ca).

Red Deer is about an hour and a half from both Edmonton and Calgary and the Westerner Fairgrounds have played host to many AutoSlalom events in the past.

Canadian AutoSlalom Championship Fast Facts

Dating back to 1972, Canadian solo competitors enjoyed a National AutoSlalom Day with an identically designed course run on the same day on different venues across the country from which national champions were determined.

In 2000, a group of enthusiastic SoloSport participants from across Canada, the Canadian National AutoSlalom Championship, created a single national championship event that ran through to 2003 when 134 participants competed.

With the formation of the ASN Canada FIA SoloSport Committee in 2004, the Canadian National AutoSlalom Championship concept became part of the mandate of the ASN SoloSport Committee and the committee elected to hold an annual Canadian AutoSlalom Championship event alternating between eastern and western Canada.
