2008 ASN Canada FIA
Canadian SoloSprint Championship
88 participants from
Ontario and Quebec, in 10 different classes took part in the 2008 ASN Canada FIA
Canadian SoloSprint Championship, August 30-31, at Calabogie Motorsports Park in
Calabogie, Ontario.
The twenty turn, 5.05 km track provided a considerable challenge to the competitors. The road course, long by Canadian standards, produced some big smiles as drivers were leaving the track, none more than Chris Paczynski of Brampton, Ontario who was crowned the ASN Canada FIA Canadian SoloSprint Champion for the second time having won the title previously in 2006.
Paczynski drove his Grand Touring class Honda S2000 to a GT1 class win on both days giving him the title over
Franois Lapointe, of St-Constant, Quebec in a Grand Touring class Honda Civic and who won the GT4 class on both days.
Third place went to Paul McFadden of Barrie, Ontario in his Super Grand Touring 2 class Subaru Impreza WRX.
Fourth place went to David Larose in his BMW 325i in Grand Touring 3.
While these four drivers won their class on both days of the championships earning 200 points each, final overall placings were determined by a formula based on the average of all the runs with a tie breaker.
Friday morning started out in wet conditions however there was a dry track by mid-afternoon. Perfect conditions on Saturday and Sunday allowed competitors to showcase their talent and their vehicles.
Competition was very close in most classes and very small margins determined the results.
SGT 3 - (21 drivers) Jonathan Weir in his Honda Civic Si Coupe edged Avi Kolfman in his Subaru Impreza WRX STi by 0.158 points.
Super Grand Touring 1 - Adam Hutchinson in his Nissan 240SX SE bettered Maxime Faulkner in his VW Golf by 0.832 points.
Grand Touring 1 - (17 drivers) Chris Paczynski, on his way to being crowned 2008 Canadian SoloSprint Champion, narrowly beat out Bryan Sperandel in his Honda Civic Si Coupe by 1.205 points.
Grand Touring 2 - Andrew Wojtaczko won the class over Carl Wener (the 2008 Canadian AutoSlalom Champion) by 1.696 points in an Acura Integra Type R battle.
