The penultimate race weekend on the 2003 schedule for the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship (SRFKC) presented by Toronto Star Wheels, will send the teams and drivers to Cameron Motorsports Park in Hamilton - for rounds 9 and 10 of the 12 race series. This will be the second new venue this year for the teams, and many drivers are lining up their run at a championship. This could well make this weekend of racing, the best the series has seen so far.

The venue, Cameron Motorsports Park, which is located on Hwy 6, close to the Hamilton Airport, has undergone some immense changes that will effectively have two tracks joined together to form one very long racetrack. "I expect this track to be very challenging for the teams," Director of karting for ASN Canada Paul Cooke said.

None of the six 2003 championship classes, have yet been decided, which is a good indication of the level of competition in the SRFKC. The closest to being decided is Formula Junior, where Guelph's Robert Wickens holds a commanding lead over Markham's Daniel Morad.

The headline class, Formula Senior is wide open. In fact, current points leader, Sutton's Juliana Chiovitti missed both rounds at Barrie, but a good drive at Sutton two weeks ago vaulted her up to the class lead. Following her is Innisfil's Frank Launi and Embrum, Ontario driver Tyler Givogue. Pfaff Porsche driver, Mike Roth who was atop the points standings earlier in the season, has had two weekends he'd rather forget - that has dropped him to fifth in the points, he will be looking to get back on the winning track at Hamilton.

The final two-stroke class, RotaxMax is still wide open. Ottawa's Jason Robar currently leads, but Oshawa's Shawn Gardner and Ottawa's Jamie Holtom are just a few points behind. Amazingly enough, Oakville's James Hinchcliffe is fourth in points despite missing four of the eight rounds thus far- mainly because he wins every time he has raced RotaxMax this year.

In the four stroke classes, Pickering's Rob Oakman, Ajax's Jason Bradimore, Whitby's Justin Mascoll and Toronto's Jason Abrams are all in the championship hunt in World Formula. Abrams will be looking to capitalize on home track advantage this weekend to vault him up to the top of the standings.

Canada Senior should go down to the final weekend at Goodwood. Currently Oakman, Mascoll, Markham's Marco Di Leo and Leamington's Jennifer Rempel occupy the top four slots. Canada Junior has Wickens and Morad again at the top of the standings. Stouffville's Pearce Herder, Newmarket's Jeff Blackburn and Mississauga's Keaton Deorksen are also in the hunt.

The objective of the SRFKC is to help foster a professional environment for kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the racing ladder to automobile racing. At the end of the season, eight drivers will be selected from the series, plus two drivers from the ASN Canadian National Championships. They will be invited to a one-day evaluation test at the Bridgestone Racing Academy at Mosport, provided they are 16 years of age prior to the date of the test. Out of those 10 drivers, two will earn a full scholarship to the 2004 Bridgestone / FormulaCar Magazine F2000 Racing Series.
