Juniors kick off the 2004 Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship on Saturday

GOODWOOD, ONTARIO - Four of the five junior classes were run on the Saturday of the two day event that opened the 2004 season for the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheel on May 1-2.

Under clearing skies, qualifications were the first order of the day. The fifth Junior class, Canada Junior Heavy, was scheduled to be run on Sunday, but that day's racing was postponed.

Canada Junior Light - Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Christopher Lane, Markham Ontario.
A wet pre-final gave Ajax's Cory Luciano the win, with Orillia's Taylor Holdaway second and Delaware's Wesley Schindel third.

Holdaway bounced back in the final to take the win, but it was hard fought. Bolton's Keenen Harris had the drive of the race. He fell back out of the lead draft in fifth, and then hooked up with Lane to make their way back to the front. Holdaway lost the lead momentarily to Harris but was able to take it back with just a few laps to go. Harris and Maples JonMichael Ostella went side-by-side across the line with Harris being declared the winner.

RotaxMax Junior - Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Pearce Herder, Stouffville, Ontario
Herder backed up his pole with a dominating win in the pre-final over Markham's Evan Hayden and Brampton's Anthony Gibson.

Herder took a commanding lead in the final only to have it come undone in the final few laps. Herder hung a wheel off the curb and spun, and second place Hayden clipped him.

Hayden rebounded went on to win ahead of Maple's Michael Iamundi, who qualified 17th. Iamundi had the drive of the race as he made a textbook pass on Richmond Hills Eric Barrett on the final lap.

Barrett had a solid run from 12th on the grid to finish third.

World Formula Junior - Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; William Keatings, Woodstock, Ontario
Keatings, starting from pole, went on to win the pre-final.

Burlington's Mark Jackson and Mount Hope's Scott Laporte followed him across the line. In the final, Keatings continued his winning ways, taking a commanding win over Laporte and Jackson.

Formula Junior - Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Daniel Morad, Markham, Ontario
Morad went on to win the pre-final over Stouffville's Michael Vincec and Bradford's Curtis Fox who came from tenth on the grid.

With a dry track for the final, Morad simply motored off into the distance to win by over 5 seconds. Second was King City's Richard Boake and Vincec came home third.
