Senior action...

SUTTON, ONTARIO – The fourth round of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship Presented by Toronto Star Wheels was held on Sunday, July 18th at 3S Go Karts in Sutton, Ontario.

The Senior classes saw some new names at the top of the charts. Leading the charge was London’s Matt Pritiko, who clean swept the headline Formula Senior Class.

Justin Mascoll took his first win of the year in Canada Senior Heavy, while Corey Usher did the same in World Formula Senior.

Marco Di Leo kept his winning streak intact in RotaxMax Senior, and took the win in Canada Senior Light

Formula Senior

Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Matt Pritiko, London, Ontario
London’s Matt Pritiko made good on his pole position by taking charge of the pre-final – he led every lap. In the final – a brutal 25 laps of the tough Sutton track – Pritiko again went from flag to flag to take his first Formula Senior win of the year. Behind him in the pre-final and final were Ottawa’s Tyler Givogue and New Market’s Mike Roth.
“It’s awesome,” Pritiko said of his first win. “It was close at the end thought. Tyler was really on me – I held my ground and it was a good race.”

Pritiko laid down the ‘law’ of the weekend with a scorching 34.411 second qualifying lap, which gave him the pole by 0.132 of a second. In the pre-final, Pritiko made a good start and held on to go flag-to-flag. He won by a 1.158 second margin.

For the 25-lap final, it would take another good start by Pritiko to have a shot at taking the win. Pritiko got not a good start, but a great one that got him the lead going into turn 1. From there Pritiko settled into a rhythm and held on to the checkered flag. “That was tough – especially on the ribs. Hopefully with this win I’ll move up in the points.”

John Pritiko, was also happy with his son’s first win. “I am really happy for our whole team. We worked really, really hard all weekend and this is the result. Mike [Roth] and Tyler [Givogue] did well, but this will tighten the points up. Luke, and Enzo Chiovitti, along with Matt’s tuner Jason Papp really helped us this weekend.”

To crown off the weekend, Pritiko was awarded the GM Racing award, which goes to a driver judged to have displayed outstanding competition skills and sportsmanship.

RotaxMax Senior

Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Marco Di Leo, Markham, Ontario
Di Leo yet again clean swept the RotaxMax Senior class by taking pole, pre-final and final win. Behind Di Leo in the pre-final were Brampton’s Trevor Daley and Pickering’s Darryl Timmers. In the final, Windsor’s Marc Stehle was second and Etobicoke’s Robert Wickens was third.

Woodstock’s Corey Usher made good on his front row starting spot – off pole – and took both the pre-final and final race wins. Polesitter Carvalho was second in both races, while Gilford’s Adriano Bilotta was third in the pre-final and Simcoe’s Don Cole was third in the final.

Canada Senior Heavy

Rain moves Juniors to Sunday schedule at Sutton!
Morad and Herder remain undefeated in Junior competition

Juniors normally highlight the Saturday schedule at the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship Presented by Toronto Star Wheels. For most of the day  that was the case, but the rains came late in the day.  Three of the four Junior class finals were put off to Sunday morning.  Canada Junior Light was the only final run, and it was Taylor Holdaway taking the win.

On Sunday, in Formula Junior, Markham’s Daniel Morad, took his fourth consecutive win, a feat matched by Pearce Herder in Canada Senior Heavy. Christophe Boisclair – the current Canadian Rotax Max Jr. Champion – took the win in Rotax Max Jr.

Formula Junior

Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Curtis Fox, Bradford Ontario
Formula Junior polesitter Curtis Fox was dealt a serious blow when he jumped the start of the pre-final – which sent him to the back of the grid. From there, Fox put on the drive of the day to finish third, just 2.767 behind winner, Markham’s Daniel Morad, and King City’s Richard Boake.

Canada Junior Light

Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Taylor Holdaway, Orillia, Ontario
Holdaway hung on to win the pre-final over Bolton’s Keenan Harris, and Maple’s JonMichael Ostella. In the final, Ostella moved forward to take the win over Holdaway and Harris.

Canada Junior Heavy

Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier, Pearce Herder, Stouffville, Ontario
Herder continued his winning streak with a clean sweep of Canada Junior Heavy. Behind Herder in the pre-final were Richmond Hill’s Michael Di Meo and Belfountain’s Kenny Riedmann. Riedmann was also third in the final, but Markham’s Evan Hayden was second.

RotaxMax Junior

Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Evan Hayden, Markham, Ontario
Quebec’s Christophe Boisclair came from third on the grid to win the pre-final. Behind him were Markham’s Evan Hayden and Richmond Hill’s Eric Barrett. In the final, first and third were the same, but Pearce Herder managed to finish second after being 10th in the pre-final.

World Formula Junior

Cameron Motorsports Fast Qualifier; Kevin Monteith, Stouffville, Ontario.
Monteith was able to capitalize on his pole position to take a clean sweep of the pre-final and final. The win stopped Woodstock’s William Keatings domination of the class so far this year. Keatings came second, and Lindsey Brown was third in both the pre-final and final.
