INNISFIL, ONTARIO This
weekend, the center of the karting world may well be 45 minutes north of Toronto
in Innisfil, as the resort town hosts the season finale of the 2004 Sunoco Ron
Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels.
We are very happy to host the event, says Innisfil Indy owner Tony Launi. The
track is ready, it will be a great weekend.
Up for grabs this weekend is seven of the ten available class championships of
the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels.
Daniel Morad (Formula
Junior), Pearce Herder
(Canada Junior Heavy) and William Keatings
(World Formula Junior) have already claimed three of the ten championships.
Leaders of the other seven class championships heading into the weekend are;
Taylor Holdaway in
Canada Junior Light, Aaron de Heus
in Canada Senior Heavy, Marco Di Leo
in Canada Senior Light and RotaxMax Senior, Evan
Hayden in Rotax Max Junior,
Corey Usher in World Formula
Senior and Mike Roth
in the headline Formula Senior class.
I
need a top five to win, Roth says, but that is easier said than done. Past
rounds especially in Formula Senior have been anything but predictable. Podium
finishers have come from as far back as 19
on the grid, so it could well be like last year and go
down to the final lap I hope not! Roth says.
Innisfil has a new layout and most of the top teams have tested or run a check
race here earlier in the year. Now, along with the class championship pressure,
there is also the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship Presented by Toronto
Star Wheels Evaluation Day picks that will also happen on Sunday. Drivers who
dont win their class still have a shot to go as the criteria is not only race
results. I am really focused on getting to the Evaluation Day, says Ashley
Hiltz, who is currently fourth in the Rotax championship. I think all the
Senior drivers would love the chance to get to Evaluation Day.
Practice is on Friday, with races on Saturday and Sunday. For a complete daily schedule, visit www.asncanada.com and for directions to the track, visit www.cmpinnisfilindy.com
The objective of the the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship Presented by Toronto Star Wheels is to help foster a professional environment for kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the racing ladder to automobile racing.
