MONTREAL'S YOUNG RACER CHRIS
GREEN SELECTED BY SPEEDQUEST RACING TO COMPETE
IN THE AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES IN 2004
by Robb Barr
Chris Green
from Montral, Quebec is joining the newly
formed SpeedQuest Racing Team as part of the
2004 American Le Mans Series. Green will be
co-driving one of SpeedQuest's Porsche 911 GT3
RS cars in the ultra competitive GT class.
SpeedQuest will make its racing debut at the
Mid-Ohio event, June 25-27th.
Chris was selected by Team Director Eric Burch,
who recognized the immense talent in the young
20 year old Canadian. in our estimation he is
certain to be one of the future stars of this
sport. He has accomplished a great deal in his
young career and is looking forward to his
rookie season in the ALMS.
Chris' reaction to learning the news was one of
elation. "Eric and I have been in discussion
since last year, and when he confirmed that I'd
be on the team, it felt pretty good. I've been
smiling non stop since the call. I'm looking
forward to competing in the series and working
with the top notch crew that Eric is putting
together."
Green who started his racing career at the mere
age of 9, has built up solid credentials in
open-wheel racing, having clinched numerous
championships in karting and Formula Ford. He
views the ALMS as an excellent opportunity to
continue developing his skills. "My goal is to
reach Formula One within the next five years,
and driving with SpeedQuest will definitely help
round out my resume. I'm not here just to show
my capabilities, I want to learn as much as I
can on and off track before continuing on with
my open wheel racing journey."
Chris' manager Robb Barr fully acknowledges the
great opportunity that Eric has provided. "We've
been looking at several possibilities for 2004,
but the offer that Eric has provided to Chris in
this day and age is second to none. Eric's
commitment to help aspiring young talented
drivers should be commended throughout the
racing world, and I would hope to see more of it
for other young drivers. A seat like this would
typically cost a driver $300K, and its very
tough for a young driver to come up with that
level of sponsorship funding."
The SpeedQuest team will carry the logos of
Hazardous Sports, a line of motorsports-related
sportswear, and Hazardous will market its
products through the race team at ALMS events.
Negotiations with other sponsors are ongoing and
announcements will be made in the near future.
